Advair Diskus (Fluticasone Propionate, Salmeterol)

What is Advair Diskus?
Advair (Salmeterol / Fluticasone) is a corticoid and bronchodilator combining. It is applied to treat and avert or abate the syndromes of asthma (ie: asthmatic, problems with breathing), and also lung diseases of a chronic form (ie: emphysema, bronchitis, - COPD). Advair Diskus is effective cure for asthma. Taking this medicine the airways in the lungs is widening that helps to ease your breathing. Advair Diskus causes muscle slackening and decreases bronchiolar intumescence. It may also be used to treat other respiration conditions as prescribed by your health care provider. Advair Diskus WILL NOT STOP an asthma attack immediately one has started. It is supposed to take other quick-relief medicines / inhalers in case of sudden shortness of breath or asthma attacks.

What should I tell my doctor before I take this drug?
The doctor needs to know about:

• COPD flare-up
• taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor
• pregnant, trying to get pregnant
• breast-feeding
• fungal, bacterial, parasitic or a viral infection
• allergy to medicines, foods, other substances
• taking any other medicines, herbal preparations, diary supplement
• osteoporosis or you have a risk of osteoporosis

   

How to take Advair Diskus?
The usual dose of Advair Diskus 100/50 mcg taken twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. The dosage for children aged from 4 is one inhalation twice a day. If you have another dosage, ask your medical practitioner. Always follow your doctor's instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.

What should you do if you miss a dose of Advair Diskus?
If you have a fixed schedule for taking Advair Diskus prescribed by your doctor and you have missed a dose of these pills, take it as soon as you remember. Still, if it is almost time for your next dose, instead skip the missed dosage and go back to your set dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.

What should you do if you overdose of Advair Diskus?
Taking any medicine above the norm you can have serious consequences for your health. If you overdose, visit your physician immediately.

What drug(s) may interact with Advair Diskus?

• Droperidol
• Water pills or diuretics
• Medicines to control heart rhythm such as amiodarone, disopyramide, dofetilide, flecainide, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol
• Terfenadine
• Medicines for treating depression or mental illness (amoxapine, haloperidol, maprotiline, pimozide, phenothiazines, risperidone, sertindole, tricyclic antidepressants, ziprasidone)
• Halofantrine
• Medicines for colds and breathing difficulties
• Astemizole
• Levomethadyl
• Thyroid hormones
• Medicines known as MAO inhibitors, such as phenelzine (Nardil®), tranylcypromine (Parnate®), isocarboxazid (Marplan®), and selegiline (Carbex®, Eldepryl®)
• Medicines for heart disease or high blood pressure
• Arsenic trioxide
• Some medicines for weight loss (including some herbal products, ephedra, ephedrine, dextroamphetamine)
• Chloroquine
• Antibiotics such as clarithromycin, erythromycin, gatifloxacin, gemifloxacin, grepafloxacin, levofloxacin, linezolid, moxifloxacin, sparfloxacin
• Beta-blockers, often used for high blood pressure or heart problems
• Pentamidine
• Caffeine
• Probucol
• Steroid hormones such as dexamethasone, cortisone, hydrocortisone
• Methadone
• Cisapride
• Theophylline
• Bepridil

What side-effects may occur?
If you feel nervousness, vomiting, dizziness, throat irritation, diarrhea, tremor, bone pain or mild muscle, headache or nausea, report to your health care provider. Stop taking Advair Diskus and seek for immediate emergency help if you notice any of the following allergic reactions: severe or persistent bone pain; fast heartbeat, pain in chest, numbness or tingling in hands or feet; spasms, cramps, or severe muscle weakness; signs of infection, unusual tiredness or weakness; white patches or sores on the tongue or mouth; worsening of asthma symptoms; vaginal odor or discharge; severe or persistent dizziness or headache; closing of your throat; hives; changes in movement, vision changes; shortness of breath; seizures; weight gain; swelling of the mouth, tongue, or face. This is not the whole list of side effects that may occur. Consult your doctor about any abnormal or troubling side effect.

How should Advair Diskus be stored?
Advair Diskus should be stored at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Protect from moisture, direct heat, and light. Keep Advair Diskus out of the reach of children and away from pets.
