What is Glucophage?
Glucophage is taken to treat type 2 diabetes. It is used with diet and exercise. It may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicinesif they are prescribed. How to take Glucophage?
Use Glucophage as it was prescribed by your doctor. Read the label on the medicine. Take Glucophage orally with meal. Do not take double dose. It is recommended to take Glucophage at the same time every day.
What drugs may interact with Glucophage?
- digoxin, morphine, procainamide, quinidine, ranitidine, triamterene, trimethoprim, quinine, amiloride, cimetidine, or vancomycin because they may increase the risk of Glucophage's side effects
- corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), calcium channel blockers (eg, nifedipine), estrogen, hormonal contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), sympathomimetics (eg, albuterol, pseudoephedrine), isoniazid, nicotinic acid, phenothiazine (eg, chlorpromazine), diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), insulinphenytoin, sulfonylureas (eg, glipizide), or thyroid hormones (eg, levothyroxine) because the risk of high or low blood sugar may be increased
