How to take Levaquin?
Use Desyrel as it was prescribed by your doctor. Read the label on the medicine. Take Levaquin orally with water. Do not take double dose and do not miss a dose. It is recommended to take Levaquin at the same time each day.
What drugs may interact with Levaquin?
- Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because the risk of bleeding may be increased
- Antiarrhythmics (eg, amiodarone, sotalol, procainamide, quinidine), astemizolecisapride, haloperidol, dofetilide, arsenic, droperidol, terfenadine, methadone, imidazoles (eg, ketoconazole), macrolides (eg, erythromycin), phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), paliperidone, pimozide, ranolazine, serotonin receptor antagonists (eg, dolasetron), telithromycin, or ziprasidone because the risk of serious heart problems, including irregular heartbeat, may be increased
- Corticosteroids (eg, prednisone) because the risk of tendon problems may be increased
- Serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) (eg, duloxetine) because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Levaquin
- Insulin or oral diabetes medicines (eg, glyburide) because the risk of high or low blood sugar may be increased
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen) or theophylline because the risk of serious side effects, including seizures, may be increased
Tell your doctor about all drugs that you take.
What side effects may I notice while taking Levaquin?
- diarrhea; gas; nausea; stomach pain; bloody stools; dark urine; decreased or painful urination;
- dizziness; lightheadedness; confusion; fainting; hallucinations; mental or mood changes (eg, depression, anxiety, paranoia); suicidal thoughts or actions; symptoms of nerve problems (eg, unusual pain, burning, tingling, or numbness; changes in perception or heat or cold; decreased sensation of touch);
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue);
- chest pain; joint or muscle pain or weakness;
- fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or sore throat; shortness of breath;
- new or worsening nightmares, restlessness, or trouble sleeping;
- hoarseness;
- red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin;
- seizures;
- severe sunburn;
- symptoms of high or low blood sugar (eg, increased thirst, hunger, or urination; fast breathing; flushing; dizziness; fainting; increased sweating; vision changes);
- tremors;
- unusual bruising or bleeding;
- vaginal discharge, irritation, or odor;
- wheezing;
- yellowing of the skin or eyes.
