What is Microzide?
Microzide is taken to treat excess fluid buildup in the body caused by certain conditions or medicines; it may also be used for treating high blood pressure or other conditions if it is determined by your doctor.

How to take Microzide?
Use Microzide as it was prescribed by your doctor. Read the label on the medicine. Take Microzide orally with or without meal. Do not take double dose. When you first start taking Microzide, it may cause an increase in urine or frequency of urination. To prevent this try not to take any dose later than 6 pm.
What drugs may interact with Microzide?
- Diazoxide or nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine) because side effects may be increased by Microzide
- Diabetes medicines (eg, glipizide, metformin), insulin, or pressor amines (eg, norepinephrine) because the effectiveness may be decreased by Microzide
- Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), narcotic pain medicines (eg, codeine, morphine, fentanyl), or medicines for high blood pressure because side effects of Microzide may be increased
- Cholestyramine, colestipol, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen) because they decrease the effectiveness of Microzide
- Lithium because risk of toxicity may be increased by Microzide
- Digoxin, dofetilide, or ketanserin because risk of irregular heartbeat may be increased by Microzide
Tell your doctor about all drugs that you take.
What side effects may I notice while taking Microzide?
- blurred vision;
- diarrhea;
- dizziness; drowsiness; lightheadedness especially when sitting up or standing; nausea; vomiting; rapid or irregular heartbeat; restlessness;
- inability to keep an erection;
- loss of appetite;
- rash or itching; redness of the skin;
- uncontrolled muscle movement; muscle pain or cramps;
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue);
- confusion;
- decrease in amount of urine;
- gout;
- inflammation of the pancreas;
- seizures;
- unusual thirst; unusual tiredness or weakness; unusually dry mouth.
Consult your doctor about any side effects that you have felt.
