Description

Cernos Gel is a 1% testosterone gel for transdermal use. Each 5 g sachet contains 50 mg of testosterone. We stock cartons of 14, 28, or 42 single-use sachets, allowing you to select the package quantity that matches the treatment schedule set by your prescriber. It is one of the available forms of testosterone replacement therapy for androgen deficiency.

Quick Overview

Testosterone is the primary male androgen. Cernos Gel supplements testosterone in adult men whose bodies do not produce enough because of confirmed hypogonadism. The hormone is absorbed through the skin into the systemic circulation, avoiding the digestive tract and first-pass metabolism. It should be applied on a consistent schedule, usually once daily, exactly as prescribed. Food does not affect a transdermal dose.

Changes in sexual symptoms, energy, or mood may emerge over several weeks, while changes in body composition or bone density can take several months. Response and timing vary, so symptoms alone should not be used to change the dose. Blood testosterone results and clinical response guide dose adjustments. Different testosterone gels can have different application sites, absorption, and dosing instructions and should not be substituted measure for measure without a prescriber's guidance.

Testosterone gel is a prescription medicine and a Schedule III controlled substance in the United States. Its controlled status is separate from the information our checkout may require to accept an order.

Who May Use Cernos Gel

Cernos Gel is intended for adult men with clinically confirmed hypogonadism. Diagnosis generally requires symptoms together with consistently low morning testosterone measurements on separate days. It is not intended simply for nonspecific tiredness, reduced performance, bodybuilding, or age-related changes without an established testosterone deficiency.

Women must not use testosterone gel. Exposure during pregnancy can virilize a female fetus, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must also avoid contact with unwashed or uncovered application sites. It must not be used during breastfeeding because transferred gel could expose an infant. Safety and effectiveness have not been established in males under 18, and accidental exposure in children has caused premature puberty-like changes.

Testosterone is generally contraindicated in men with known or suspected prostate or male breast cancer and in anyone with hypersensitivity to the product's ingredients. Tell the prescriber about urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate, sleep apnea, heart, kidney, or liver disease, edema, high blood pressure, a history of blood clots, fertility plans, or an elevated hematocrit before treatment begins. Testosterone can suppress sperm production and is not an infertility treatment.

Men with diabetes should know that androgens can lower blood glucose and reduce insulin requirements. Testosterone may also affect anticoagulant response, while corticosteroids or ACTH used with testosterone can increase fluid retention. A prescriber should review all medicines and supplements before treatment. For additional reader-facing navigation, our Men's Health section covers related therapies that may be worth discussing with a healthcare professional.

Before Using Cernos Gel

Before the first application, confirm the prescribed dose, frequency, and permitted application sites in the supplied instructions. Do not apply the gel to cuts, irritated skin, or any body area not specified for this formulation. Arrange a routine that prevents children, women, and other household members from touching treated skin, used sachets, towels, or clothing that may carry wet gel.

Baseline and periodic monitoring commonly includes morning serum testosterone, hematocrit or hemoglobin, blood pressure, and age- and risk-appropriate PSA and prostate assessment. A clinician may also monitor lipids, liver function, urinary symptoms, edema, sleep apnea, and glucose control when relevant. Seek medical advice if you develop marked ankle swelling, breathing difficulty, worsening urinary symptoms, persistent or painful erections, breast enlargement, severe headache, weakness on one side, chest pain, or symptoms of a blood clot.

Common adverse effects can include application-site irritation, acne or oily skin, headache, mood changes, increased red blood cell count, breast tenderness, and fluid retention. Keep follow-up appointments even if you feel well, because elevated hematocrit, blood pressure, or testosterone levels may not cause obvious early symptoms.

Handling and Storage

Apply Cernos Gel to clean, dry, intact skin at the time and only on the sites specified by your prescriber and the supplied instructions. Spread the prescribed amount as directed, allow it to dry fully, and cover the treated area with clothing. Wash your hands immediately with soap and water after handling the gel. Do not apply extra gel after a missed dose unless your prescriber or the product instructions specifically direct you to do so.

Follow the supplied instructions for how long to wait before showering, swimming, or washing the application site, since washing too soon can reduce absorption. Before anticipated skin contact with another person, wash the treated area thoroughly with soap and water and cover it again with clean clothing. If someone else touches unwashed application skin, that person should wash the contact area promptly with soap and water. Contact a healthcare professional if a woman or child develops acne, increased body hair, genital changes, or other signs of androgen exposure.

Keep unopened sachets in a tightly closed container below 86°F, protected from heat, direct light, and moisture. Keep them securely out of the reach of children and pets. The alcohol-based gel is flammable until dry, so do not smoke or go near fire, flame, or another ignition source during application. Use an opened sachet as directed rather than saving residual gel for later, and dispose of it where no one else can handle or reuse it.
