FAQ

Keep the sublingual tablet whole unless the package instructions or a pharmacist advises that altering it is suitable.

Description

Viagra Professional is a sublingual tablet formulation of sildenafil that we offer in 50 mg and 100 mg strengths. It is designed to be placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve instead of being swallowed whole. This guide explains what the tablet contains, how sildenafil works, how to use it safely, and how its US prescription classification differs from the documentation our checkout may require.

Viagra Professional Overview

Composition and Active Ingredient

The active ingredient in Viagra Professional is sildenafil, formulated as sildenafil citrate. Sildenafil belongs to the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor class of medicines. It blocks the PDE5 enzyme in erectile tissue, helping nitric oxide maintain higher levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate, or cyclic GMP. This relaxes smooth muscle and increases blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. Sildenafil does not create sexual desire or cause an erection without stimulation.

Sildenafil citrate is authorized for human medicinal use in the United States and has been studied extensively since Viagra was introduced in the late 1990s. Viagra Professional is supplied as a sublingual tablet rather than the conventional swallowed sildenafil tablet. We offer 50 mg in packages of 20, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 270, or 360 pills. The 100 mg strength is available in packages of 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 270, or 360 pills.

Use Cases for Viagra Professional

Sildenafil's established use at these strengths is the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult men. Erectile dysfunction means being unable to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for satisfactory sexual activity. The medicine supports the normal erectile response to stimulation; it does not cure the underlying cause of erectile dysfunction, increase fertility, prevent sexually transmitted infections, or act as contraception.

Persistent erectile difficulties can sometimes be associated with diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, medication effects, hormonal problems, or psychological factors. A clinical assessment is particularly important when symptoms are new, worsening, or accompanied by reduced exercise tolerance, chest discomfort, or other health changes.

Prescription Requirement

In the United States, this sublingual sildenafil dosage form is classified as prescription-only. That regulatory classification is separate from our product-specific checkout requirements. Our current ordering information does not specify what prescription documentation we require to accept an order, so review the instructions shown during checkout or contact our support team before submitting it. Our pharmacist and support team are available 24/7 by phone, online chat, or email.

A clinician should assess whether sildenafil and the selected strength are appropriate, especially because the medicine can lower blood pressure and interact seriously with nitrates and certain other drugs. This review should include current medicines, cardiovascular health, previous reactions to erectile-dysfunction treatment, and any liver or kidney impairment.

General Dosing and Warnings for Viagra Professional

How and When to Take Viagra Professional

Place a Viagra Professional tablet under the tongue and allow it to dissolve as directed; do not treat it as a conventional tablet to be swallowed whole unless a clinician or the product instructions specifically tell you otherwise. Do not crush it into food, divide it to improvise a different dose, or take more tablets because the expected response has not occurred immediately.

For conventional sildenafil used as needed for erectile dysfunction, 50 mg is a common adult starting dose, with adjustment according to effectiveness, tolerability, interacting medicines, age, and liver or kidney function. The maximum generally recommended frequency is once in a 24-hour period, and 100 mg is ordinarily the maximum single dose. These general principles do not replace the directions provided for this sublingual formulation. Follow the dose and timing selected by your prescriber rather than automatically moving from 50 mg to 100 mg.

Conventional swallowed sildenafil is often taken about one hour before sexual activity and may begin working within roughly 30 to 60 minutes, with effects on erectile response commonly lasting about four hours. Food, especially a high-fat meal, can delay the absorption of a swallowed tablet. Because Viagra Professional uses a different route, conventional onset data should not be treated as a guaranteed timetable for this product. Individual response varies, and sexual stimulation is still required.

Avoid heavy alcohol use around the dose. Alcohol can worsen dizziness, lower blood pressure, and make erectile function less reliable. Do not combine Viagra Professional with another sildenafil product or any other PDE5 inhibitor in an attempt to improve or prolong the response.

Missed Dose

Viagra Professional is generally used when needed rather than on a fixed daily schedule, so there is usually no missed dose to make up. If a planned dose was not taken, use the next dose only when it is next appropriate under the prescribed instructions. Never take an extra tablet to compensate for a dose that was skipped, and do not take more than one dose within 24 hours unless a clinician has explicitly directed otherwise.

Suspected Overdose

Taking more sildenafil than directed can increase the severity of headache, flushing, dizziness, indigestion, visual effects, low blood pressure, fainting, and priapism. If an overdose is suspected, contact Poison Control in the United States at 1-800-222-1222 or seek urgent medical care. Call emergency services for collapse, severe chest symptoms, breathing difficulty, seizure, or an erection lasting longer than four hours. Have the package, strength, approximate number of tablets, and time of exposure available if possible. Do not induce vomiting unless a medical professional instructs you to do so.

Precautions

Allergy Warnings

Sildenafil should not be taken by anyone with a known hypersensitivity to sildenafil citrate or any inactive tablet ingredient. Signs of a serious allergic reaction can include hives, widespread rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, wheezing, or difficulty breathing. These symptoms require immediate medical attention. An unspecified general allergy history is not by itself a sildenafil-specific restriction, but all known medicine and ingredient allergies should be reported before use.

Health Condition Warnings

Never use sildenafil with nitrate medicines in any form, including nitroglycerin or isosorbide products used for angina. The combination can cause a sudden, dangerous fall in blood pressure. It must also not be combined with soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat. Recreational products called "poppers" may contain amyl or butyl nitrite and present the same serious nitrate interaction.

Alpha-blockers and other blood-pressure-lowering medicines can add to sildenafil's effects on blood pressure. A clinician may need to confirm that alpha-blocker treatment is stable, select a lower sildenafil starting dose, or separate administration times. Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may also require a lower dose or less frequent use.

Sexual activity places extra demand on the heart. Sildenafil should not be used when a clinician has advised against sexual activity because of cardiovascular risk. People with unstable angina, severe heart failure, significant rhythm problems, very low blood pressure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a recent heart attack or stroke need individualized medical assessment before use. Chest pain, faintness, or severe shortness of breath during sexual activity requires stopping and seeking urgent care. Tell emergency personnel when sildenafil was last taken, and do not self-treat the episode with a nitrate.

Liver impairment, severe kidney impairment, advanced age, or medicines that slow sildenafil metabolism can raise drug exposure and may call for a lower starting dose than the strengths offered here. Extra caution is also needed with a history of priapism, sickle cell disease, multiple myeloma, leukemia, penile deformity, bleeding disorders, active peptic ulcer disease, retinitis pigmentosa, or previous non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy. Sildenafil is not established for pediatric erectile-dysfunction use, and these 50 mg and 100 mg tablets are intended for adults.

Side Effects of Viagra Professional

Common sildenafil side effects include headache, facial flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, nausea, dizziness, back discomfort, and muscle aches. Temporary visual effects can include blurred vision, increased light sensitivity, or a blue-green color tinge. These effects are often mild and improve as the medicine wears off, but persistent or troublesome symptoms should be discussed with a clinician.

Because dizziness and visual changes can occur, wait until you know how the medicine affects you before driving, operating machinery, or doing anything that requires clear vision and alertness. Alcohol may intensify dizziness or lightheadedness. Rising slowly from a seated or lying position can reduce the chance of feeling faint.

Seek emergency care for an erection that is painful or lasts longer than four hours, because delayed treatment can permanently damage erectile tissue. Stop using sildenafil and obtain prompt medical attention for a sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes or for sudden hearing loss, which may occur with ringing in the ears or dizziness. Severe chest pain, fainting, signs of stroke, or a serious allergic reaction also require emergency evaluation.

Response and tolerability should be reviewed if sildenafil repeatedly does not work as expected. Taking additional doses is not an appropriate substitute for checking administration technique, timing, sexual stimulation, underlying health conditions, or interacting medicines.

Viagra Professional and Medicine Interactions

Sildenafil's major interaction risks come from the active ingredient and apply regardless of tablet format. Nitrates and nitric-oxide donors are contraindicated because they can combine with sildenafil to produce life-threatening hypotension. Riociguat and other soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators must also be avoided. Do not combine Viagra Professional with tadalafil, vardenafil, avanafil, another sildenafil product, or a pulmonary-hypertension treatment containing sildenafil.

Alpha-blockers, blood pressure medicines, and substantial alcohol intake can increase dizziness and low blood pressure. Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors - including ritonavir, cobicistat, ketoconazole, itraconazole, and clarithromycin - can markedly increase sildenafil exposure. Some interactions require a lower starting dose, a longer interval between doses, or avoidance. CYP3A4 inducers such as rifampin may reduce sildenafil exposure and effectiveness. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice may also increase exposure in some people.

Provide a clinician or pharmacist with a complete list of prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins, supplements, and recreational substances. This is especially important for chest-pain treatments, HIV medicines, antifungals, antibiotics, prostate medicines, and drugs used for pulmonary hypertension. Our support team can provide general product information, but changes to prescribed treatment or interacting medicines should be made only with the relevant clinician.

After Using Viagra Professional

Storage

Store Viagra Professional tablets at 68°F to 77°F, with brief excursions permitted between 59°F and 86°F. Keep them dry, away from direct light, and in their original packaging until needed. Do not store the tablets in a bathroom, near a kitchen sink, or anywhere exposed to excessive heat or humidity, because moisture is particularly undesirable for a tablet intended to dissolve under the tongue. Keep all medicine out of the sight and reach of children and pets.

Do not use a tablet if its packaging is damaged or if its appearance, odor, or texture has changed. Check the package information for an expiration date, and do not use expired tablets. When traveling, keep the medicine in its labeled packaging and protect it from temperature extremes rather than leaving it in a parked vehicle.

Disposal

The preferred way to dispose of unused or expired sildenafil is through a community drug take-back program or an authorized collection site. Do not flush the tablets down the toilet unless official disposal instructions specifically direct you to do so. If no take-back option is available, remove the tablets from their packaging, mix them with an unappealing substance such as used coffee grounds or cat litter, seal the mixture in a bag or container, and place it in household trash. Remove personal information from labels before discarding the empty packaging.

Viagra Professional, Viagra, and Other Alternatives

Viagra Professional differs from conventional sildenafil primarily in its sublingual dosage form. We also carry other sildenafil-based options, including Viagra, Viagra Super Active, Viagra Soft, and Kamagra. These products share sildenafil as an active ingredient, but their directions, strengths, inactive ingredients, and dosage forms may differ. They should not be used together or treated as interchangeable without checking the instructions and obtaining appropriate clinical guidance.

Sildalis contains sildenafil and tadalafil rather than sildenafil alone. Combining two PDE5 inhibitors changes the safety profile and can increase adverse effects, so a combination product is not simply a longer-lasting version of Viagra Professional. Tadalafil, vardenafil, and avanafil are separate PDE5 inhibitors with different timing, duration, dosing, and interaction considerations.

Non-drug alternatives include vacuum erection devices and counseling when anxiety, relationship concerns, or other psychological factors contribute to erectile difficulties. Clinicians may also consider injectable or intraurethral treatment when oral or sublingual PDE5-inhibitor therapy is unsuitable or ineffective. The best alternative depends on cardiovascular safety, other medicines, desired timing, previous response, ease of administration, and personal preference.
